The magician lays down a prediction on the table and lets it be watched by the audience. A spectator chooses any number up to 54 and counts out that many cards from the deck.
They turn over the card at the chosen position, which matches the prediction. The magician then counts the remaining deck to confirm there are indeed 54 cards and fans the cards for a clear view of each one.
